Moon Knight collects issues 1-14 of the Marvel Comics series written by Jeff Lemire and art by Greg Smallwood。 Marc Spector awakens to find himself in a mental asylum to learn he has been a patient receiving treatment since he was 12 and that all his memories of being Moon Knight were just a figment of his imagination。 Now Marc is fighting for who he truly is and his place in the world。 I love Jeff Lemire's creator owned work but I have disappointed with every superhero book I have read by him。 Moon Knight collects issues 1-14 of the Marvel Comics series written by Jeff Lemire and art by Greg Smallwood。 Marc Spector awakens to find himself in a mental asylum to learn he has been a patient receiving treatment since he was 12 and that all his memories of being Moon Knight were just a figment of his imagination。 Now Marc is fighting for who he truly is and his place in the world。 I love Jeff Lemire's creator owned work but I have disappointed with every superhero book I have read by him。 This book feels like Tom King's recent DC books (Mister Miracle, Rorschach, and Strange Adventures), but doesn't have the same meaningful stories to tell or emotional impact。 I think the hook for the book was good, it just wasn't executed well。 I found myself quickly getting bored every time I picked it up and found the pacing very messy。 The art was pretty good throughout, but not enough to save it unfortunately。 。。。more

I am utterly speechless。 I’m trying to find the words to review this story but it’s hard for me。 It was such a fever dream。 There were times that I felt like I was questioning reality along with Marc。 And the art was just so visually stunning that accompanied this dream of a story so well。 And it probably had the most satisfying ending I have ever read from a comic so far。 It was just amazing。 Pure genius

Checked a lot of boxes for me, both words and pictures。 Not the 5-est of 5-star books, but I really liked it。

Wasn't too impressed by Warren Ellis' run, which I decided to have a look at ahead of the upcoming Marvel TV series, knowing next to nothing about the character。 This was a lot more engaging - a good mix of mysticism, Egyptian mythology, psychological head-messing, Sci fi, pulp detective novels, a bit of blatant Batman plagiarism, and deliberately confusing leaps in time and perspective。 Good stuff。 Wasn't too impressed by Warren Ellis' run, which I decided to have a look at ahead of the upcoming Marvel TV series, knowing next to nothing about the character。 This was a lot more engaging - a good mix of mysticism, Egyptian mythology, psychological head-messing, Sci fi, pulp detective novels, a bit of blatant Batman plagiarism, and deliberately confusing leaps in time and perspective。 Good stuff。 。。。more

Jeff Lemire is one of the best in the biz, and for the first third of “Moon Knight”, he flex’s his creative muscle。 Then, the run descends into chaos and incoherent pretensions。 The artists change depending on the story, with the best one being the original escapist chapters。 Later, the book gets bogged down from Marc’s endless personality cycles - disjointed tellings that become too complicated and inconsistent to cohesively digest。 Some of these include: a childhood bestfriend producing a movi Jeff Lemire is one of the best in the biz, and for the first third of “Moon Knight”, he flex’s his creative muscle。 Then, the run descends into chaos and incoherent pretensions。 The artists change depending on the story, with the best one being the original escapist chapters。 Later, the book gets bogged down from Marc’s endless personality cycles - disjointed tellings that become too complicated and inconsistent to cohesively digest。 Some of these include: a childhood bestfriend producing a movie, the actor portraying Moon Knight in said movie, a werewolf fighting astronaut that even Marc Spector admits is nonsense。 The hospital inmates he escaped with perish and are resurrected with such regularity, that there is no suspense to anyone’s potential fate。 The only bright spot was a promising beginning that recalled both the oration and visuals of “Legion”。 It’s spoiled by a weak middle and an ending that intermingles his origins with encountering Khonshu that goes nowhere。 。。。more

A deep dive into the mind of Marc Spector and his many aliases, Lemire faces the stigma surrounding the topic of mental health and tackles it head on as Spector struggles with his many personalities pulling him in different, and dangerous, directions。 Written at a dizzying yet captivating pace, Lemire grabs your attention like a grappling hook and doesn't let go until conclusion。 No doubt a great preparatory read before the show debuts in March。 A deep dive into the mind of Marc Spector and his many aliases, Lemire faces the stigma surrounding the topic of mental health and tackles it head on as Spector struggles with his many personalities pulling him in different, and dangerous, directions。 Written at a dizzying yet captivating pace, Lemire grabs your attention like a grappling hook and doesn't let go until conclusion。 No doubt a great preparatory read before the show debuts in March。 。。。more

Let the madness guide you。 Absolutely fantastic, mind-bending book that does a lot to humanize a character with complex mental illness。 The art too contributes to an overall feel that crosses time, space, and Marc/Moon Knight's various alters' points of view。 100% recommended for anyone who loves street-level heroes with a twist! What a hard character to get right。 I found part of this to be incredibly boring, and I would be lying to say that I wasn't thoroughly confused at times。 But I really felt for the character, and the flashbacks were very intriguing。 The artwork was lovely, and sometimes the story felt like a fever dream。 I liked it, but I think starting my journey with Marc Spector might have been better with a different title。 (I had to pull up reference sites to get things straight for me。) What a hard character to get right。 I found part of this to be incredibly boring, and I would be lying to say that I wasn't thoroughly confused at times。 But I really felt for the character, and the flashbacks were very intriguing。 The artwork was lovely, and sometimes the story felt like a fever dream。 I liked it, but I think starting my journey with Marc Spector might have been better with a different title。 (I had to pull up reference sites to get things straight for me。) 。。。more

Out of the many Marvel comics I’ve read this year, this is easily one of the best。Marc has a very unique illness that is rarely present in comics, let alone media as a whole, and the way this handles it is done so well, and the series at a whole feels like a genuine respectful character analysis of one of Marvel’s most profound characters。

I suppose it's a mistake to pick up a comic that's actually part of a long-running title as opposed to its own series。 I read this because of an algorithm recommending it after reading something else by Jeff Lemire。 I've read most of his own stuff and almost none of his writing for existing characters/titles/series/properties/whatev。 So there were a lot of moments where I felt like this thing is only happening because of this established character's backstory, all of which was unknown to me。 I f I suppose it's a mistake to pick up a comic that's actually part of a long-running title as opposed to its own series。 I read this because of an algorithm recommending it after reading something else by Jeff Lemire。 I've read most of his own stuff and almost none of his writing for existing characters/titles/series/properties/whatev。 So there were a lot of moments where I felt like this thing is only happening because of this established character's backstory, all of which was unknown to me。 I finished reading, looked up the character on Wikipedia (I have never heard of Moon Knight before this week) and of COURSE, there's a Disney+ series coming very very soon。 。。。more

Well, it was better than the last Moon Knight series but it still suffers from a writer who feels he needs to really dig deep into the mental makeup of Marc Spector。 It feels like we are getting the same story over and over for the last 15 years or so。 3。5 rounded up but I could have just as easily rounded downThe first 5 issues are fun, and offer a few new twists to the tired psychosis of Moon Knight。 Then for a few issues, I thought were the equivalent of Brick Tamland screaming "Loud Noises" Well, it was better than the last Moon Knight series but it still suffers from a writer who feels he needs to really dig deep into the mental makeup of Marc Spector。 It feels like we are getting the same story over and over for the last 15 years or so。 3。5 rounded up but I could have just as easily rounded downThe first 5 issues are fun, and offer a few new twists to the tired psychosis of Moon Knight。 Then for a few issues, I thought were the equivalent of Brick Tamland screaming "Loud Noises" over and over again。 Finally, the last few issues tie everything together to give us a more stable Marc Spector 。。。 maybe? I enjoyed the art, I like Moon Knight - although I miss the Moon Knight that kicked ass as a superhero -, and there's a good chance some of this makes it into the show 。。。 so I guess you should read it if you are interested。 But read the early stuff first if you can。 Don't let this be your only knowledge of the character。。。 。。。more

Well, if you like trippy, life of the mind shit, this is probably your jam。I do not like trippy, life of the mind shit。 Basically, this entire thing is a dream。 Sort of。 And as a great writer once said, "Don't write dreams into your stories。 A dream can be anything。 It can be a snake rolling a donut down a hole。" I agree。 Because dreams are basically little TV episodes you make up。 They're fiction。 And if you put a dream into fiction, you've got fiction inside of fiction。 Which is totally unnece Well, if you like trippy, life of the mind shit, this is probably your jam。I do not like trippy, life of the mind shit。 Basically, this entire thing is a dream。 Sort of。 And as a great writer once said, "Don't write dreams into your stories。 A dream can be anything。 It can be a snake rolling a donut down a hole。" I agree。 Because dreams are basically little TV episodes you make up。 They're fiction。 And if you put a dream into fiction, you've got fiction inside of fiction。 Which is totally unnecessary because it's fiction from the get-go, so whatever you wanted to accomplish through the dream in fiction, you're probably better off doing it within the "reality" of the fiction。It's also weird because if a dream is interpreted in fiction, it can only work two ways: One is that the dream is interpreted, and the interpretation doesn't play out, so basically it's a waste of time。 The other is that the dream is interpreted "correctly" and the thing that is suggested by the interpretation comes to pass。 Which would be interesting in real life, but it's absolutely meaningless in fiction because you've set up both the dream AND the "reality" surrounding the dream。 So you could have a detective story where the detective dreams what happened at a crime scene。 This dream could be incorrect, which is uninteresting, or it could be correct, which APPEARS interesting, but then the reader will be aware that the dream coming true is not actually interesting because the dream and the reality around it are both fictions created by the same person。Fictional drug trips and drunkenness work the same way。 It can be meaningful or meaningless in the context of the story, but if it's meaningless, why is it in the story, and if it's meaningful, it's merely a creation of the writer。And like in this book, mental illness that causes hallucinations or multiple personalities, as perceived by the afflicted person, just don't work。 Because some of the shit is "real" and some is nonsense, and there's no difference in terms of the functionality of the story。 This book could basically end with Moon Knight waking up and going, "Wow, what a weird dream" and it would function exactly the same and make more sense。 。。。more
